Leslie Jesson

Of Winthrop

Leslie A. (Cummings) Jesson of Winthrop passed away at the East Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chelsea on November 6. She was 62 years old. Prior to her retirement, Leslie worked as a Service Representative for Prudential Insurance. She was the beloved wife of Charles A. Jesson; the devoted mother of Nicole M. Jesson of Brooklyn, NY; dear sister of Michael Cummings of Winthrop; sister-in-law of William F. Jesson and his wife, Sharon Stark of Winchester, Sandra Jesson and her late husband, Thomas E. Jesson of Peabody and Kathleen M. Harris and her husband, Frank Harris of Winthrop. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements were by the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, Winthrop. Burial was in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section.) Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  Merle Cohen 

Of Revere formerly of Winthrop

Merle L. (Byne) Cohen of Revere, formerly of Winthrop, entered into rest November 7. She was 87 years old. The beloved wife of the late Leo Cohen, she was the devoted mother of Dr. Barry T. and his wife, Caryn of Marblehead, Eric J. Cohen of Peabody and Michael G. Cohen and his wife, Susan of Marblehead; loving sister of Faye Simensky of Boynton Beach, FL.; cherished grandmother of Esther and Jonathan Amerikaner, Matthew, Jason, Lauren, Miriam, Rachel and Joshua Cohen; adored great grandmother of Leo Amerikaner and the dear sister-in-law of the late Larry Simensky. Arrangements were by Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, Salem. Interment was at Ahavas Achim Anshe Sfard Cemetery, Lynn. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her memory may be donated to the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home, 17 Lafayette Ave, Chelsea, MA 02150.

 Helen Martha Rowe

Former Winthrop High School Teacher

Helen Martha (Wahburn) Rowe, a long time resident of Winthrop, passed away on November 3 after a long illness. She was 84 years old. Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the beloved daughter of the late Walter and Ethel Washburn. Mrs. Rowe was a High School English teacher in the Winthrop school system for 23 years. She graduated from Roxbury Notre Dame Academy, attended Regis College and graduated from Boston University with a Master’s Degree in English Literature. She was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society and leaves behind many friends and former students. She was the devoted wife of the late Francis James Rowe Jr., and the loving mother of Francis James Rowe III, Nicholas and his wife, Linda Rowe, Charles and his wife, Delmy and the late Thomas Treen Rowe of Winthrop; the cherished grandmother of Francis James Rowe IV, Susan Rowe, Libby Rowe, Justin Rowe and Elizabeth Rowe and the adored great grandmother of Francis James Rowe V, and Raine Sena.  Harriett Ronan

Harriett C. (Brawley) Ronan of Winthrop died peacefully November 9 at the age of 97, surrounded by the love of her family. Harriett, who was a member of the Cottage Park Yacht Club in Winthrop, was the beloved wife of the late Colonel Edward I. Ronan; cherished daughter of the late Henry A. Brawley and Winifred G. (Leonard); dear sister of late Anna, Martha, and Henry A. Brawley Jr.;devoted mother of Patricia A. Ronan of Winthrop, Martha R. Kuehn of Needham and Gayle R. Smith of Needham; adored grandmother of Winifred O. Gorman, Amanda C. Smith, Brittany A. Smith, Andrew E. Kuehn, Emily C. Smith, and Paul R. Smith and great-grandmother of Luke M. Gorman and Gavin W. Gorman. A Funeral Mass will be held in Arlington National Cemetery, Fort Meyers, Virginia, at the Old Post Chapel at time and date to be announced in the near future. Burial will be beside her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.
