Congratulations, Speaker Deleo

We offer our congratulations to Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo who received a tremendous vote in his re-election to office Tuesday and we thank his opponent, Paul Caruccio, for running a good campaign in which he clearly demonstrated his knowledge of the issues and his enthusiasm for the electoral process. The fact is that Speaker DeLeo has been an outstanding representative for the Town of Winthrop throughout his distinguished career on Beacon Hill — and even before that as we remember his service on the Board of Selectmen alongside such dedicated colleagues as Bob Noonan, John VanDalinda, Ron Vecchia, Tom Reilly, Marie Turner and others.

Bob’s powerful position of leadership of the 160-member House of Representatives gives him a busy schedule as he is called upon frequently to speak at so many events throughout the Commonwealth. Bob’s representation of our town has been superb as has been shown time and again with his proven ability to secure funding for local programs and organizations. Bob’s work on comprehensive legislation to prevent domestic violence and his efforts in increasing access to addiction treatment services — for which he received a major award recently — are accomplishments that all his constituents can be proud of.

But the Speaker’s work is not done and now his experience will be vital as he looks ahead to working with a new governor in January.
