We caught up with Mike Eruzione who was in Chicago this week helping out his former Olympic hockey teammate and fellow BU alum Jack O’Callaghan on a special project. Mike told us that he’s very excited about the upcoming comedy night that Winthrop Charities is hosting on Oct. 17 at the Winthrop Yacht Club. The king of Boston comedy, Steve Sweeney, who has a role in Denzell Washington’s current film, “The Equalizer,” will be the headliner.
Captain Mike Eruzione authored the greatest sports moment of the 20th century when he scored the winning goal against the Soviet Union and Team USA went on to win the gold medal at the 1980 Winter Olympics. Mike hasn’t forgotten his roots and he and his wife, Donna, still reside here and take pride in their community and are always giving back to it. Winthrop Charities has assisted student-athletes with financial assistance for user fees and helped out many organizations in town. We remember their generous donation to build a brand new weight room at the high school that the coaches and students truly appreciated.
And there is good news for the Winthrop hockey program. Mike told us that his schedule this winter will allow him to assist the Vikings’ ice hockey program as a coach. Mike has been involved in the past and been a tremendous asset to coach Dale Dunbar’s program.
We say thank you Mike Eruzione and Winthrop Charities and we’ll be there at the Comedy Night supporting your efforts to help Winthrop residents.
