DeLeo Meets with Massport on Health Study

House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo (D-Winthrop), joined by Senator Anthony Petruccelli (D-East Boston) and Representative Carlo Basile (D-East Boston) and supported by Representative RoseLee Vincent (D-Revere), met with Massport last week to discuss the recently released Logan Health Study conducted by the Department of Public Health (DPH).

In the meeting Massport committed to helping community health centers provide additional health screenings. The legislative delegation cited this as a first step in responding to the findings.

“I’m pleased that we were able to take action less than a week after the study was released,” Speaker DeLeo said. “This is only the beginning of our work to ensure individuals living near Logan are safe and treated fairly. I look forward to continuing discussions with my colleagues on Beacon Hill, Massport, DPH and my neighbors and constituents.”

“I appreciate Massport CEO Tom Glynn’s willingness to work with our communities on targeted programs to address public health issues raised by the Logan Health Study,” said Senator Petruccelli.

“Speaker DeLeo brought his concerns to Massport years ago,” said Tom Glynn, Massport CEO. “This study provides a road map of how we can work to improve the health care of residents of Winthrop and other communities abutting the airport.”

The legislation for the study was filed in 2000 by then-Representative DeLeo and Senator Petruccelli, then a Representative. It is the most comprehensive and first of its type, surveying more than 6,000 adults and 2,000 children.

  • I hope Speaker DeLeo also brought up the plight of the workers at Logan-minimum wage, no benefits, and hostile working environments.
