One-hundred-and-forty-five students will receive their diplomas at the Class of 2014 commencement exercises Friday night at Miller Field.
The ceremony is historic in that this class will be the final one to graduate from the “old†Winthrop High School. The site will be the future home of the Winthrop middle/high school complex.
The Class of 2014 is also the first to graduate under the leadership of Principal Eileen Belastock who will address the graduates during the program.
Supt. of Schools John Macero will also be one of the speakers. Macero praised the graduates for their academic, athletic, and extracurricular achievements.
“It’s a great class,†said Macero. “They have been a class that has been very quiet through their four years but very powerful as they graduate. They are extremely talented academically.â€
Council President Peter Gill, Fire Chief Paul Flanagan, and Police Chief Terence Delehanty are among the dignitaries that will be in attendance.
