The Show Will Go on

The Winthrop Playmakers are in the process of selling their building on Hermon Street, but incoming Playmakers’ president Pam Racicot assures us that the theatrical organization will continue in this town. The decision to sell their long-time home was obviously a difficult one, but it’s something the theater group had to do in light of the financial challenges it was facing that made it impossible to undertake the repairs the building needed.

For 76 years the Winthrop Playmakers’ organization has provided an outstanding showcase for local actors, directors, and producers and has been the launching point for those pursuing full-time careers in the industry. Countless Winthrop and area residents have enjoyed attending Playmakers’ performances throughout the years. The enjoyment the group has brought to grandparents, parents, and children has been  immeasurable. It is fair to say that the Playmakers are a Winthrop treasure.

One can’t reflect on the history of the Playmakers without mentioning long-time Winthrop resident Pat McGee, who has been such a wonderful asset to this organization, often appearing in productions and being so supportive of other actors and singers who have graced the stage through the years. We know Pat will continue to support this great organization and the future operations of the Playmakers.

We’ll await a buyer of the Playmakers’ building to emerge, but it’s heartwarming to know that the organization is in great hands with Pam Racicot about to assume the presidency and her confident message that the Playmakers will be in our town for many years to come.
