A New Look at Silver Clean

Lisa Polignone and Bob Polignone describe Silver Clean Laundromat as “more than your typical laundromat.”

Lisa, who is a real estate broker and instructor, and her husband, Bob, a senior information technology manager, took over ownership of the store in September, 2012. The Polignones directed a major facelift of the store that included the installation of brand new washing machines and dryers. They also focused on friendly, personalized service for their customers.

“We wanted a store that had a family, neighborhood type feel so we renovated the whole store,” said Bob Polignone. “Our service is really personalized. We cater to the people.”

They Polignones instituted a new “wash, dry, fold” service with free, same-day pickup and delivery, a service that has become quite popular with Winthrop’s seniors. Silver Clean sends out its items for dry cleaning to Sal’s Cleaners of Everett.

Another popular addition has been Silver Clean’s personable and helpful attendant, Tom Brazil, who says that the store is a welcoming spot along a stretch of family-run, customer-friendly businesses on Crest Avenue.

“One of the things people like about Silver Clean is that it is a very social atmosphere,” said Brazil. “The customers feel very comfortable coming here. It’s a very customer-oriented business. Lisa and Bob care about the needs of the customers and they try to accommodate them the best way they can – and the people have responded to the friendly, helpful service at Silver Clean.”

Bob Polignone said business has been very good in 2013. “The store is doing well,” said Polignone. “We’ve getting the word out that the store is under new management, we have free pickup and delivery, and that it’s $1.10 per pound for wash, dry, fold. We’re known for having one of the cleanest laundromats.”

The personal touch at the store is evident with the decorations on the wall during each holiday season.

“I decorate for every holiday,” said Lisa. “We’re doing Christmas this month and people look forward to seeing the holiday decorations. We’ve done Halloween and Thanksgiving. Valentine’s Day is next.”

Customers are impressed with the positive changes at Silver Clean and the spruced-up appearance.

“This is a wonderful store,” said Joanne Nickerson, who does her laundry and dry cleaning at Silver Clean. “They have great service. They’re very professional and they’ll come to your house and pick up your dry cleaning and laundry and drop it off again. And Tom, the attendant, is marvelous.”

Twice-a-week customer Fran Amico said, “I love the people here. Everything is very convenient and very clean. Bob and Lisa are wonderful people and the laundry service is awesome.”

Bob and Lisa Polignone will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in July. They have two children, Brandon, a freshman baseball player at UMass/Dartmouth, and Jonathan, a superb 13-year-old baseball pitcher who is being instructed by former professional baseball players Steve Lomasney and Jeff Allison.
