Car Crashes into Youth Center Early on Sunday Morning

Kathy’s Place Youth Center on Putnam Street is up and running following a two-day closure due to an incident early Sunday morning in which an individual drove an automobile into the front entrance, causing extensive damage to a glass door and window.

The accident necessitated youth center officials to close the center for two days. The center re-opened Tuesday with the front right portion of the entrance boarded up. Visitors were instructed to enter through a side door.

Police Lieutenant Brian Perrin said at on Sunday, Oct. 20 at approximately 3:30 a.m. a female driver slammed her automobile into the front door and window of the building. The driver was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Perrin said he and other officers have viewed a videotape of the early morning crash.

“The police investigation is still pending and we’re looking to track down more evidence because the person was injured in the accident,” said Perrin.

Karen Perrin, who is Lt. Perrin’s wife and events coordinator at the youth center, said events have resumed at the center and a post-football game “Fifth Quarter” gathering scheduled for Friday night will go on as scheduled.

The center will also be part of the annual Halloween Haunt on Oct. 31.

“If the Center’s door is not fixed by that time, we will be conducting the Halloween activities at the side door, distributing candy and taking photos from 4 to 6 p.m.,” said Karen Perrin. “We’ll also be holding a middle school Halloween dance on Nov. 1.”
