‘Annie’ Being Presented by Winthrop School of Performing Arts

Local celebrities and young actors and actresses from Trudy Macero’s Winthrop School of Performing Arts will present three performances of “Annie” on July 31, Aug. 1, and Aug. 2 at Winthrop High School.

Superintendent of Schools John Macero, Trudy’s husband, has one of the leads as Oliver Warbucks. Police Chief Terence Delehanty, Councilor James Letterie, former Chamber of Commerce president Paul Leavy, and WHS hockey coach Butch Martucci will also make appearances in the play.

Martucci will join his daughter, Mia, who appears as one of the orphans.

Delehanty’s daughters, Jenny and Sarah, have cameos in the play.

Former Selectman Ron Vecchia will take the stage in two roles and be joined by his granddaughter, Haven Pereira, who recently lit up the stage in North Shore Music Theatre’s Sound of Music and has the role of Molly.

Another recent junior standout at NSMT, Heather Buccini, will star in the lead role of  “Annie.” Buccini played Pepper, one of the orphans, in the NSMT production last year. The talented young actress will sing the signature tune, “Tomorrow” in the show.

According to one observer who has receive a glimpse of the rehearsals, John Cramer, appearing has President Frankin Delano Roosevelt, will deliver a showstopping performance.

Trudy Macero said the cast is excited to be performing the musical, Annie.

“We actually do it about every seven years,” said Macero. “It gives an opportunity for the younger children to be a part of it. It’s one of our favorite shows and a perfect show for our school because we have so many young girls. This cast is outstanding.”

It’s a family show on and off the stage. In addition to Trudy’s husband taking part in the play, her daughter, Jamie Montesano, will play the evil Miss Hannigan.

Macero will donate proceeds from the play toward the purchase of a professional-level sound board for the WHS Drama Club.
