End of an Era, Start of Another: Former Winthrop Hospital Will Become an Assisted Living Center

Years of controversy and fits and starts came to an end this week with the groundbreaking ceremony that was held Tuesday morning at the long-dormant Winthrop Hospital site that will become a beautiful new assisted living center.

For almost seven decades since  Winthrop Hospital was built in 1932, the hospital truly was a part of the fabric of the Winthrop community. Its dormancy for more than a decade was a sad reminder of how much it meant to Winthrop and its residents for generations.

However, the hospital site now will take on a new life as an assisted living center, which once again will make it a prominent part of our town and something that all Winthrop residents can take pride in.
