Speech Was Eye Opening: Former No.1 Draft Pick Had Much to Offer

That was an emotional and thought-proving presentation by former Major League Baseball first-round draft pick Jeff Allison, who appeared at a Winthrop High School assembly last Thursday. Allison was simply one of the greatest high school pitchers in Massachusetts history and the Miami Marlins made him their first round pick in 2003.

But unfortunately, some personal struggles with substance abuse cut short Allison’s professional baseball career. His words were well-received by the students of Winthrop High School and we know they will learn from them.

We thank the Eruzione family’s Winthrop Charities (Leighann Eruzione Callinan was present for the event), Friends Helping Friends, and Viking Pride for sponsoring Jeff Allison’s speaking engagement.
