Congratulations,pamela: New Exalted Ruler of Local Elks Takes Over

Well, that was a very formal and dignified installation-of-officers ceremony as Winthrop resident Pamela Milton became the Exalted Ruler of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks. The pomp and circumstance surrounding the ceremony was quite impressive and showcased the tradition and history associated with the Elks’ organization.

Pamela beamed with pride as she was elevated to the prestigious role of leader of the 1,500-member organization. She was joined on the occasion by her husband, Ron, who surprised her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, and other members of her family. Much to the approval of those in attendance, Pamela told the guests at the ceremony that the Winthrop Lodge of Elks on Washington Avenue soon will undergo a $1.3 million renovation project that will bring the landmark building into the 21st century, ready to serve its members and our community for another 100 years.

Pamela succeeds Kathy Haskell as the Exalted Ruler and she thanked Kathy for doing an outstanding job in the position. The ceremony was also a time to recognize Nancy Ranahan as the Officer of the Year and Carl Colson as the Elk of the Year. We had the honor of enjoying the installation dinner in the company of Mr. Colson and his wife Beverly and it was certainly a joyous evening as he received this award in recognition of his volunteer work in many capacities helping people in our community.

The Winthrop Lodge of Elks has been one of our strongest community-minded and charitable organizations for decades. Almost every resident of Winthrop has been affected by its outreach and philanthropic endeavors.

It was great to see Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo, a member of the Elks Lodge himself, at the ceremony, along with Council President Peter Gill, who has been an Elk for only a “short” time (a mere 49 years) and Councilor-at-Large Philip Boncore, whose membership in the organization spans 42 years.

So we congratulate Exalted Ruler Pamela Milton on becoming a great and highly respected leader who surely is poised to carry on the outstanding work that the Winthrop Elks stand for.
