Explorers of the Year


The Winthrop Police Department is proud to announce this year’s recipients of the 2012 Police
Explorer Post #99 “Vincent Crossman Explorers of the Year Award” presented to Vanessa Faro
Petersen of Winthrop and Jillian Flowers of Saugus. This award is presented to a member who
demonstrated dedication and commitment to the program. Both explorers have participated in
many community service activities as well as hours of training throughout their four years in the
post.

Vanessa and Jillian have participated in three award winning Massachusetts Explorer
Conferences. They also participated in the National Law Enforcement Explorer Conference in
2010 at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta as well as the National Law Enforcement Explorer
Conference at Colorado State University in Fort Collins this past summer proudly bring home a
National Conference trophy. Vanessa and Jillian have now achieved senior status within the post,
and look forward to their continued commitment and mentoring new members of the post.

Vanessa is currently a senior at Saint Joseph’s Preparatory High School in Brighten and Jillian is
a senior at Saint Mary’s High School in Lynn. Both are planning to attend college in the fall of
2013 and will pursue careers in Criminal Justice.
