Wynn is in the Casino Game

Steve Wynn, the prominent developer of casino and resort properties, has submitted the Phase I application and the $400,000 licensing fee in quest of the one casino license that will be granted in the Greater Boston area. Suffolk Downs in East Boston had been the only organization known to seek the license up until Monday when Wynn made his intentions officially known.

Suffolk Downs has done a great job keeping the town of Winthrop informed throughout the casino process.  Suffolk Downs Chief Operating Officer Chip Tuttle has been accessible and has come to our town to meet with residents and discuss Suffolk’s plans. Suffolk and Caesar’s officials have shown the utmost professionalism in rolling out the plans for the $1 billion casino/resort project and explaining its benefits to our town and the thousands of jobs that the project would create.

Winthrop officials and residents will be closely watching the licensing and application process being conducted by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission as it all unfolds and our state prepares to enter an historic point of having casinos for the first time. With a $1 billion project at stake, it certainly will be an exciting time for residents of this area.
