Congratulations are in order for Jim Costin on the opening of the brand new Belle Isle Seafood, located just 500 feet away from his previous location, but a world away from the previous landmark restaurant which was not much more than a shack for decades on the East Boston/Winthrop line on the Belle Isle Bridge on Saratoga St.
All of us have memories of the old Belle Isle Seafood. For us, it was stopping by to get a pound of lobster meat for our grandmother, Zita Quigley, who wanted “only the knuckle meat.â€
But the new incarnation is a beautiful restaurant with much more seating and a spectacular view of the Boston skyline which will feature an outdoor deck in the warner months. This is the true realization of the American dream for Costin, who started as a cook at Belle Isle at the age of 15 and eventually purchased the business from his boss, and who now is moving forward on a far grander scale.
Jim is a WHS and Suffolk University grad and lives in Winthrop with his wife, Stephanie (Curran, a Class of 1989 WHS grad)Â and their two children, Bryce and Brooke.
The new place is located right on the waterfront at 1 Main Street, adjacent to Ace Hardware. It surely will be another “place to be†in our town with both great food and a great atmosphere.
We wish Jim the best and we know we join with our fellow residents in looking forward to enjoying many great meals there in the years to come.
