Large Voter Turnout Predicted

Winthrop Town Clerk Carla Vitale is expecting a large turnout of voters for the election on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Vitale said there are 11,461 registered voters in the town. A total of 479 residents registered between the September election and the registration deadline (Oct. 17) for the November election.

There are 4,652 registered Democrats in Winthrop, 990 registered Republicans, and 5,779 undeclared voters.

The hotly contested U.S. Presidential and U.S. Senate elections are expected to draw voters to the polls. Voters will also consider statewide ballot questions.

Speaker of the Mass. House of Representatives Robert A. DeLeo, Winthrop’s state representative since 1990, has an opponent, Republican candidate Paul Caruccio. State Sen. Anthony Petruccelli also has an opponent, Republican candidate Thomas Dooley.

Vitale said close to 650 absentee voters have already submitted their ballots to the Town Clerk’s Office.

Polls will be open in Winthrop from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
