If October 31 and Halloween are approaching, it must be time for the Annual Halloween Haunt in Winthrop Center.
Tom Hankard, branch manager at Winthrop Federal, a division of Webster First Credit Union, invites local youths and their parents to enjoy all the festivities at the Annual Halloween Haunt on Wednesday, Oct. 31 beginning at 4 p.m.
Children wearing their Halloween costumes will begin their journey at Winthrop Federal where they will receive a Winthrop Federal Halloween bag and a map of businesses participating in the event. Close to 50 businesses will welcome children to their establishments where they will receive candy and other treats.
“This is my first Halloween in Winthrop but I was told there were 1,000 children here for last year’s Haunt,†said Hankard. “We’ll be passing out bags and maps. This is the 13th consecutive year of the event so I hope 13 is lucky. This is a great tradition in Winthrop and it keeps getting bigger every year.â€
Hankard said the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce has been supportive of the Halloween Haunt.
Eric Gaynor, executive director of the Chamber, said his office will have a special attraction at their headquarters.
“We’re going to be giving out candy but we’re also going to have creepy creatures,†said Gaynor. “One of our members is going to have a snake and a tarantula for the kids to check out. He’ll be in our office with some critters.â€
Gaynor said the Halloween Haunt is always a fun event in the town.
“There’s a disk jockey playing scary music and there are other cool things going,†said Gaynor. “Seeing the kids in costumes, a lot of the adults will dress up, too, which is neat. It’s just a fun, safe community event where you get to see your friends and neighbors.â€
