Judith Ann Geran

Retired Accounts Receivable Administrator

Judith Ann Geran of Winthrop, formerly of Newton, died of cancer at her daughter’s home in Winthrop on August 8. She was 71 years old.

Ms. Geran was born in Boston, graduated from Brighton High School and was employed as an Accounts Receivable Administrator for the Veterans Transportation Company in Waltham. Ms. Geran donated to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and St. Jude’s Childrens’ Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She has lived in Winthrop for the past three years, and formerly resided in Newton.

The daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Michaels) Garabedian, she leaves two daughters: Tracey Honan of Winthrop and Jodi Geran of Newton.

Funeral arrangements were by the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, Watertown. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.

Joseph ‘Mike’ Byrne

Respiratory Therapist

Joseph M. “Mike” Byrne died suddenly at the Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett on August 8. He was only 59 years old.

‘Mike’ was born in Malden on September 24, 1952 to the late Joseph and Patricia (Convery) Byrne. He was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School in 1970, graduated from Dean Jr. College and North Shore Community College with a degree in respiratory therapy. Mr. Byrne worked as a respiratory therapist at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center for many years. An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Beverly Golf Club. But most of all, he was wonderful and caring son, brother and uncle who will be sorely missed by all who loved him.

He was the loving son of the late Joseph and Patricia (Convery) Byrne; devoted brother of Juliana M. Lemp of Newbury, Maria Hutchings, Patrice Wharem and her husband, Dave Dutil and Timothy G. Byrne, all of New Hampshire and Vincent R. Byrne and his wife, Joanne of Saugus and the caring and very close friend of Lyn Sweesey. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were by the Gately Funeral Home,  Melrose. Burial was in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
