Chamber Dinner a Big Success: $10,000 Annual Event Once Again Was Fun for All

The Chamber of Commerce’s $10,000 Dinner is always one of the most enjoyable events on the social calendar and this year’s event held Saturday night at the Cottage Park Yacht Club was another outstanding function.

Of course, the main highlight it the exciting opportunity for a guest to walk away with a $10,000 cash prize (But alas, the final four decided to split the pot and take home $2,500 apiece).

But this was a great Winthrop event with several of our councilors in attendance, led by Council President Peter Gill, who actually help launch the $10,000 Dinner in 1987 during his reign as president of the Chamber. It was great to see State Senator Anthony Petruccelli supporting the Chamber as well.

We know how much time and energy an event likes this takes to plan and Chairman Jim Marr certainly deserves to take a bow for his leadership in making sure that all the tickets were sold. We love the way Mr. Marr handles the elimination round when the 10 finalists have to decide whether to split the pot or continue on. And then rather than just announce who has been eliminated from the prize round, he’ll walk up and down until he delivers the news that you’re the one that won’t be walking out of here with $10,000.

The food was delicious (and the Cottage Park Yacht Club now handles it’s own catering operations for functions), the disc jockey played wonderful, upbeat music, the silent auction prizes were outstanding, and most of importantly, the company was great.
