There was an excellent turnout for the HarborCOV candlelight vigil Tuesday in front of the E.B. Newton School building (Winthrop Cultural Center), the purpose of which was to heighten public awareness of domestic violence issues.
Police Chief Terence Delehanty and members of the department, including event coordinators Judy Racow and Sean Delehanty, were out in full force and their presence sent a clear and symbolic message that the WPD considers domestic violence a serious matter in our community. Town Manager James McKenna delivered some personal thoughts about the domestic violence issue and how it is one that must stay in the forefront.
All of the agencies and individuals involved in the planning and staging of the vigil, including those who decided to hold the event at the Cultural Center (which proved to be the right setting for the event), are to be commended for their fine efforts.
