The E.B. Newton Gala was a success from all vantage points. And when Massachusetts Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo personally announced to the guests in attendance that the Massachusetts Historical Commission was going to award a $50,000 grant for repairs to the E.B. Newton School, it only added another level of good cheer to the entire event.
The event itself raised $10,000 as approximately 350 guests came out to support the town and help the continued transformation of the school into a cultural and historical center for the town. Considering that it was the middle of the holiday weekend, the turnout was outstanding and it was nice to see virtually all the members of the Winthrop Town Council in attendance as well as State Sen. Anthony Petruccelli, Speaker DeLeo, and several department heads.
Town Manager James McKenna had a vision for the restoration and use of the E.B. Newton School and the building is well on its way to becoming the local treasure that he hoped it would be. To Mr. McKenna, Tanji Daigneault, Amy Rordiguez, and all of the individuals and local businesses who helped make the gala a successful event, we say, “Thank you.â€
