The Town of Winthrop’s Commission on Disabilities is sponsoring a “DISABILITY RESOURCE FAIRE” at the Winthrop Senior Center 31 Harvard Street on Saturday May 7th, 2011 between the hours of 1:00pm and 4:00pm. It will be our first time taking on such an endeavor for the benefit of those who are disabled, who know someone who is disabled or advocating for someone in the family who needs information or services. Our Commission has tried to encourage health providers and suppliers, foundations and committees, organizations that offer services, transportation, equipment and safety, and all providers who may in some manner touch a disabled child, adult, senior or elderly to come and participate with us.
Do you need help trying to file for Social Security Disability ? We will have a Social Security Advocate that can help you file and advise you how to fight for your rights. A FREE service.
Some of the subject matter we are going to try to cover…………Multiple Sclerosis, Marfans Syndrome, Ataxia, Ehlers Danlos, information for the Visually and Hearing Impaired, equipment issues, ramps and lifts, Spinal Cord Injuries, Neurological issues and activity information.  If there is not a representative at the Faire for a particular question one may have…it will be the commission’s task to get you in touch with the personnel or agency that can provide the answer. We will be having Commonwealth Clinical Services taking blood pressures and you can enjoy some light refreshment. Come and visit each table and pickup information. It is going to be a wonderful take in for an afternoon!!!
