Police Blotter 03-10-2011

February 28

1:03 a.m. — Jean Benjamin, 24, of Peabody, was arrested and charged with speeding, the negligent operation of a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and failure to stop/yield following a traffic stop at Walden and Main streets.

8:24 p.m.  — The holdup alarm at a nail salon on Crest Avenue was accidentally activated.

9:14 p.m. — Officers respond to a dispute on Almont Street. Two men were on the scene, and they reported having a verbal argument with other men who left the area.

March 1

5:49 a.m. — A caller reports a truck is parked on Walden Street with its engine running. An officer talked to the owner, who told him that the truck is equipped with a motor that automatically turns on and off to protect perishables.

2:02 p.m. — A caller reports two people are drinking in public on Golden Drive, but no one is around when units respond.

3:55 p.m. — A man asked an officer to standby while he picked up his son for a visitation.

8:30 p.m. — A caller reports a Shirley Street resident with a car registered in New York has been parking illegally in town. The necessary information was passed on to Parking Enforcement, which will monitor the situation and issue any necessary citations.

10:02 p.m. — Officers are dispatched to Nevada Street, where a man and a woman were engaged in a verbal dispute.

March 2

12:52 p.m. — A party reports that her wife, from whom she is separated, is repeatedly calling her, and she is afraid. The other woman lives in Revere, and the resident is told to contact the Revere Police.

3:06 p.m. — An Otis Street resident reports that he just had a group of people over his house, and $70 is missing. An officer contacted the guests, who denied taking the money, while the caller said he didn’t want to pursue court action.

7:57 p.m. – Joseph Bianchino, 27, of Chelsea, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering (vehicle, nighttime) after a call to a Locust Street location.

11:21 p.m. — A caller reports a “suspicious red pickup truck with two occupants” has parked in the same place at Bowdoin Street and Madison Avenue each of the last two nights. An officer responds and discovers the operator was simply talking to his girlfriend, who he picked up from work, before she went into her house.

March 3

9:36 a.m. — A Sunnyside Avenue resident reports that she is the “victim of fraud and unauthorized use of a debit card.”

2:57 p.m. — A group of kids is cleared out of a convenient store on Putnam Street.

11:37 p.m. — A caller reports kids are loitering and “blaring music” in a parking lot on Pauline Street, but all is quiet when units respond.

March 4

11:21 p.m. — A party reports her father’s car was struck by a hit-and-run driver. She is advised to contact his insurance company.

3:24 p.m. — A caller reports someone is lighting fireworks on or near Sea View Avenue.

3:33 p.m. —  A group of kids is dispersed from Michael’s Mall on Putnam Avenue.

6:20 p.m. — A Pleasant Street resident reports having a verbal argument with his girlfriend, who is throwing his belongings out of a window. Peace had been restored by the time officers arrived.

6:41 p.m. — Officers respond to a Faun Bar Avenue residence, where a woman reportedly is threatening to harm herself; she voluntarily goes to the Whidden Memorial Hospital.

6:49 p.m. — Officer Racow received a call from an organization called “Scam Warners” concerning possible internet fraud involving the sale of puppies and a Winthrop resident. She is told to contact WPD if and when she gets the name of a victim of the scam.

March 5

3:48 a.m. — Thomas Todisco, 64, of Revere, was arrested and charged with possession of a Class a substance in a school zone, OUI (third offense), and possession with intent to distribute.

10:09 a.m. — A caller asks for the assistance of the ACO in capturing “all of the wild cats” inside a vacated home in Winthrop.

12:31 p.m. — A Douglas Street resident called to report she is being threatened by her next-door neighbor via a social networking Web site. Officer Brown spoke to all parties, and no report was necessary.

2 p.m. — Officers help a resident locate his 14-year-old daughter, who left home the previous night and hadn’t returned home.

1:24 p.m. — A caller from Brewster Avenue reports an adult male and a boy are shooting a BB gun at cans on the seawall. An officer responded and called a cease fire.

5:44 p.m. — A Summit Avenue resident reports she was contacted by a man in Vancouver requesting she wire him money because she had won a contest. She did so, and now realizes it was a scam. All of the necessary authorities are notified, and the victim will complete a statement and bring it to the station.

March 6

1:20 a.m. — Anthony Guarino, 49, of East Boston, was arrested and charged with speeding and OUI (second offense) following a traffic stop at Pleasant Street and Girdlestone Road.

3:42 a.m. — A Willow Avenue resident reports her back door is open and her 14-year-old son is not at home. She later informed WPD that her son had gone out with a friend for “an early-morning jog.”

10:30 a.m. — Officers dispose of three used syringes that were found on Banks Street.

10:59 a.m. — Officers dispose of two needles found at Shore Drive and Irwin Street.

3:30 p.m. — A caller reports a “possible aggressive pan handler” in the area asking for money. No such person is located.

8:20 p.m. — A group of youths is dispersed from Shirley Street.
