Congrats, Johnna – WHS student nets a full scholarship

We wish to take the opportunity to recognize and congratulate WHS senior Johnna Fisher, who reportedly has been offered a full scholarship to Central Connecticut State University for basketball.

Central Connecticut is a Division 1 NCAA basketball program, so this represents quite an honor both for Johnna and Winthrop High.

We also wish to mention this achievement in this context: Athletics provides a means for many of our students to obtain a college education.

We applaud the statement by Town Council President Jeff Turco in his commentary in this week’s Sun Transcript for stressing the importance of reducing the athletic user fee at Winthrop High, which works such a hardship on many of our student athletes.
