Putnam Street businesses welcome back customers

Businesses on Putnam Street are celebrating. The completion of a prolonged water and sewer replacement project in Winthrop Center is nearing completion. The construction often meant road closures and detours making it difficult for customers to get to their destinations.

Now, all the streets are open again with just a final paving left to do.

“We want to thank our customers for putting up with the disruption,” said Marco Tieri, owner of Surf Cleaners. “We’re grateful for their patience.”

As a sign of appreciation, Surf Cleaners is offering one free plain sweater cleaned with any incoming order thru the end of October. Also this month, Surf Cleaners is participating in a breast cancer fundraiser with other dry cleaners, using pink hangers.

Surf Cleaners has been an institution in Winthrop Center for the past 50 years. In addition to dry-cleaning, the business does tailoring, alterations, shoe repair, and wedding gown preservation.

With an emphasis on customer service, Surf Cleaners has kept prices low while maintaining high quality.
