Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo received one of the Rotary Club’s highest honors, a Paul Harris Fellow, during the Winthrop Rotary Club’s luncheon Monday at the Winthrop Arms.
Jim Polino delivered a wonderful tribute, recounting Bob’s ascension from Winthrop Selectman to State Representative to House Ways and Means Chairman to his current position as Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
Speaker DeLeo was clearly touched by the honor and the standing ovation that he received from Rotary Club members. Bob spoke about how much he treasures the honor to serve Winthrop in the House of Representatives and that he appreciate the strong support he receives in the town.
Yes, Bob is one of the most powerful lawmakers in the Commonwealth, but it also is clear that he places his service on behalf of the people of Winthrop uppermost on his agenda. The town is well served to have Bob DeLeo representing our interests in the state.
From his days as a member of the Board of Selectmen, to his service as a Little League coach, to his rise in state government, Bob DeLeo has been a credit to this town.
We congratulate him on his honor from the Rotary Club of Winthrop.
