Connors wins again

Jake Connors won both events in which he entered to score 10 points for a depleted Winthrop High boys track team in its meet with Swampscott last week. Jake won the high jump with a leap of 6-2 and took the triple jump with a landing of 36-6.

Connors will represent Winthrop at Saturday’s State Coaches Meet to be held in Duxbury.

The freshman and sophomore members of the Viking track team acquitted themselves well in last Friday’s Northeastern Conference Freshman/Sophomore Meet held in Lynn.

Alehandro Miranda brought home a fourth place ribbon in the two mile run with a time of 10:54.8. David Gallo took a fifth place ribbon with a discus toss of 93-8. Nick Floyd earned a sixth place ribbon with a long jump of 17-1.

Other Vikings who competed were: Jimmy Barker finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 16-0 and 12th in the 100 dash in 13.0; Robert Arsobuto took eighth in the triple jump with a landing of 30-2 and ninth in the 400 low hurdles in 80.9; Nick Floyd finished 16th in the mile in 5:38; Mario Mazzone was 16th in the 800 in 2:42.6; Vinny Tarentino was 15th in the 400 in 70.7; Kevin Touch was 11th in the 100 dash in 12.9; and Matt Stasio finished 11th in the discus with a toss of 77-7.

The boys track team will compete at Danvers today (Thursday) and at Marblehead Monday.
