Public forum on flood map revisions

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) issued a Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) February 1 to revise sections of Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps adopted by the Town of Winthrop in September, 2009.

The recent map change and subsequent revision has adversely affected many property owners, lending institutions and insurance companies. Banks are requiring property owners to purchase flood insurance on short notice or the banks will purchase the insurance directly and simply increase the escrow payments. Many property owners have been forced into this situation and they want to know how they can get help. The Winthrop Building Department will be sponsoring a forum on Thursday, March 4th at 7pm at the Harvey Hearing Room at Town Hall. There will be representatives from FEMA, DCR and Congressman Markey’s office to answer your questions and provide support. This forum will be very beneficial to those who have been affected by the new flood map revision.
