When Chris Finn laces up his skates for the final time in the Pope John XXIII High School hockey program, he will do so as one of the most prolific performers in the Everett parochial school’s history.
Finn has surpassed the 100-point milestone, winding down the final stages of his interscholastic career with 45 goals and 59 assists.
Pope John High School is not where it all started for the handsome, 6-foot, 180-pound center iceman.
Finn commenced his high school career at Savio Prep where he earned a spot on the varsity team and registered five goals and four assists as a freshman. When Savio closed, Finn moved on to Pope John where his skills have improved and his scoring touch has helped the Pope John/St. Clement cooperative team become a tournament qualifier in the Catholic Central League.
The Winthrop resident has also become a team leader and is the reigning Most Valuable Player, an award he will likely receive again. “I was honored when I was selected as a captain. It’s nice to be a leader.â€
Teammates say that Finn is an unselfish player who enjoys distributing the puck more than scoring goals. The speedy senior takes pride in his playmaking abilities.
“I feel I’m a very good passer,†said Finn, whose favorite NHL player is Marc Savard. “To see a teammate score a goal and have his face light up in joy and knowing that I helped make it possible is the best feeling in the world.â€
Finn took to the ice early on, skating in the East Boston Youth Hockey organization by the time he was four years old. “I grew up with all those kids and they’re still my friends,†said Finn.
The Pope John scoring king is being recruited by Fitchburg State College where he hopes to continue his hockey career. He will major in Education with a goal of becoming a teacher. Finn thanked his parents, Brian (“Mostly it was my father who taught me how to play hockey,†he said) and Judith, and his sister, Meaghan, for their support throughout his hockey career. Meaghan is a graduate of Savio and a senior at St. Anselm College where she’ll graduate with a degree in Nursing.
Looking back on his years at Pope John, Finn said, “It’s been a great experience. I really like the school.â€
He’s not limiting his participation in school activities to the skating rink.
“I’m involved in the drama club,†said Finn with a smile. “I’m a backstage technician for our production of “Bye Bye Birdie.†Maybe someday I’ll be on stage, but I’m not ready for that yet.â€

This is the biggest BS of ever seen in print. Maybe the kids father should be a fictional writer, because this is real good fiction. The kid didn't have 100 points in his high school career, not even close. Oh by the way, they forgot to mention that he got thrown off the team his senior year for being too selfish! His own teammates voted him off the TEAM. This whole article is one big lie!! The people who run this paper should do more research before they write fiction as news.
