Evans sprints to two victories

James Evans was a bright light for the Winthrop High boys track team in their recent meets with Danvers and Marblehead, winning the 55 meter dash against all opponents in both meets.

James sped to victory against Danvers in 6.8 seconds, edging his closest Falcon opponent by just .10 sec. He also won the Marblehead race in the same time of 6.8 and likewise nipped his closest rival by .10.

Teammate Tyler Norris was the lone other Viking to get on the scoreboard against Danvers, taking second place in the 300 in 41.1

Other Winthrop athletes who competed against Danvers were Paul Correle with a fifth in the shotput with a throw of 34-2.5; Mike Riley with a sixth in the shotput with a toss of 29-.75; Connor Hegarty with a fourth in the dash in 7.2; Alex Powell with a fifth in the 300 in 52.5; Kyle Gagin with a fourth in the 600 in 1:54.5; and Mario Mazone with a fifth in the 600 in 1:58.1.

In the Marblehead meet, Correle garnered three points with his second place throw of 35-7 in the shotput. Hegarty earned a point for his third place effort in the 55 meter hurdles in 9.5.

Gagin took fourth in the 600 in 1:56.1; Mazone took fifth in the 600 in 1:58.9; Norris finished fifth in the dash in 7.3; and Alex Powell finished fourth in the mile in 7:40.1
