There should be a huge crowd on hand Monday at the Lodge of Elks Hall when the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce hosts a luncheon featuring Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo and State Sen. Anthony Petruccell.
Chamber Executive Director Eric Gaynor said it may in fact be a historic gathering in that it may be the first time that a sitting Speaker of the House has ever been the featured guest at a Chamber event.
There certainly are plenty of issues for Speaker DeLeo to talk about, from the meals tax to the current state of the Massachusetts economy to the override of the Governor’s budget vetoes to the debate on casinos and slot machines that will come before the House of Representatives in the fall. (Bob is a proponent of slot machines in the state, not full-fledged casino resorts as the Governor wants).
Gaynor said there will be a question and answer period so residents can ask Speaker DeLeo and Sen. Petruccelli their thoughts on a variety of topics.
We urge as many residents as possible to attend what promises to be a lively and informative luncheon event. We thank the Chamber for hosting the proceedings and Bob DeLeo and Senator Petrucelli for taking time out of their busy schedules to come here.
