Charlotte Marcus, 91

Retired Secretary

 

Charlotte (Savel) Marcus of Winthrop died on May 23 at the Cape Heritage Nursing Home in Sandwich. She was 91 years old.

Mrs. Marcus was born in Winthrop, attended Winthrop schools and high school before continuing her education at Bryant and Stratton Secretarial School in Boston. She was a secretary in the import/export industry, an avid Bridge player and is described as being very generous and charitable and a very loving mother.

She was the devoted mother of Joseph Marcus and his wife, Sheila, and the late Beverly Marcus, the loving grandmother of Todd, and loving great-grandmother of Jacob and Harrison.

Graveside services were held at New Tifereth Israel of Everett Cemetery with arrangements by Torf Funeral Service of Chelsea.

Geraldine Malolepszy, 77

Taught at Carter School, St. John the Evangelist and Domenic Savio High School

 

 Geraldine (D’Angelo) Malolepszy of Winthrop died at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital on May 24, after a brief illness. She was 77 years old.

Born in Boston, daughter of the late Emma (Grasso) and Anthony D’Angelo, she was a longtime resident of Winthrop and a graduate of Fitton High School, Emmanuel College and Boston State Teachers College. She taught at the Carter School in Chelsea, St. John the Evangelist School and Domenic Savio High School.

She was the devoted mother of Maria and Tom McCormack of Melrose and John and Mary Beth Malolepszy of North Andover, beloved sister of Anthony and Sharron D’Angelo of Virginia Beach, Va. and the late John H. Marenghi and the loving grandmother of Leah, Andrew, Jack, Ned and Megan.

Her funeral will be conducted from the Ernest P. Caggiano & Son Funeral Home on Friday, May 29 at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Forest Hills, Boston. Anne Oliver, 75

Of New Hampshire, formerly of Winthrop

 

Anne M. (Mello) Oliver of Meredith, NH, formerly of Winthrop, died at Goldenview Healthcare, Meredith, NH on May 26. She was 75 years old.

Born in Stoneham, daughter of the late Elizabeth (Doherty) and John Mello, she lived in Winthrop for more than 60 years. She was a past president of the Mothers’ Club of St. John the Evangelist School.

She was the beloved wife of Clifford E. Oliver; devoted mother of Kathleen Muldoon of Saugus, James Oliver of Lynn, Thomas Oliver and John Oliver, both of Meredith, NH; dear sister of John Mello of Russell, Kansas; and the loving grandmother of Christopher Muldoon, Patrick Muldoon, Matthew Muldoon, Nicole Oliver and Elizabeth Oliver.

Jean DiGiovanni

Of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston

 

Jean F. (Heil) DiGiovanni of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, died on May 24.

She was the beloved wife of Pasquale DiGiovanni; devoted mother of Maria DiGiovanni of Winthrop and the late Joseph J. DiGiovanni; sister of William Heil of Florida, James Heil of Saugus and the late Margaret, John and Robert Heil; grandmother of Lisa Santangelo and her husband, Eric; great-grandmother of Gianna and Eric; and the mother in-law of Lisa (Ciulla) DiGiovanni.

Funeral services will be held in the Magrath Funeral Home, 325 Chelsea St. (at Day Square), East Boston, today, Thursday, at 11 o’clock. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are today, from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-1942 would be appreciated.

 

Edward Gifford, Sr., 78

Raytheon retiree, life member of Pleasant Park Yacht Club

 

Edward J. Gifford, Sr. of Tewksbury, formerly of Winthrop, died May 23. He was 78 years old.

He was a Korean War veteran, a Raytheon retiree and a life member of the Pleasant Park Yacht Club in Winthrop.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara E. (Tacy); a son, David M. Gifford of Tewksbury; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carol A. Gifford of Medford, and Tacy E. and her husband, Thomas Corbett, of New Boston, NH, and their three children, Thomas, Alannah, and Aidan Corbett. He was also the father of the late Edward Gifford Jr.

His funeral will be held Friday, May 29, at 9 a.m. from the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of Dewey and Main streets (Route 38), Tewksbury Center. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. William Church, 1351 Main St., Tewksbury. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Visiting hours are today, Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

Robert Smith

Longtime Suffolk Downs Racing Official

 

Robert J. Smith of Lynn, formerly of Winthrop, died on May 19.

A racing official for many years with the old Suffolk Downs, he was the beloved husband of Christine (Kapelos) Smith; devoted father of Jacquelyn; loving son of Mariette Bertrand; dear brother of Richard, Marcia, Wallace and Mariette; and he is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends.

In accordance with his wishes, funeral services were private. Arrangements were by the Ruggiero-Mazzarella Memorial Home of East Boston.

 

Helen Millerick

Of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston

 

Helen E. (Gallagher) Millerick of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, died on May 21.

She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Millerick; mother of Ann Marie and Kevin Millerick, both of Winthrop, and the late Kathleen Ruggiero; sister of the late Mary Donahue, Alice Murphy and Edward Gallagher; grandmother of Colleen Millerick, Sheila and Anthony Falucci, Nicole and Christopher Pagliarulo, Joseph and Donna Ruggiero; and she is also survived by six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral arrangements were by the Magrath Funeral Home, East Boston. Burial was in Winthrop Cemetery.

William Miller, 54

Of Charlestown, formerly of Revere

  

William J. Miller of Charlestown, formerly of Revere, died at home on May 17. He was 54 years old.

A US Marine veteran born in the Bronx, New York, he was the beloved father of Stacey and Melissa; devoted son of Anna M. (Vallely) Miller of Charlestown and the late James J.; dear brother of James J. of Winthrop, Daniel J. and his wife, Nichole, of the US Navy, Martin J. and his wife, Donna, of Malden, Marianne Miller-Lacey and her husband, Walter, of Charlestown, Vincent J. and his wife, Natacha, of Middleton.

He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews: Jodi Ann Indorato, Amber Miller, Deanna Indorato, Angela Miller, Brandi, Daniel J. Miller II, Derek Miller, Bret Miller, Erin Tiffany Lacey, Danielle Lacey, Padraic Lacey, Brittany Lacey, Daniel Miller, Anna Maria Miller, Jacob Miller.

He also was the uncle of the late Mathew Miller.

Funeral arrangements were by the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, Revere.  Burial was in the Mass National Cemetery, Bourne.
