Winthrop Middle School Principal Zoe Haskell has submitted her letter of retirement to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Jenkins and the members of the School Committee, signifying the end of an era in the school system.
Haskell has been the principal of the middle school for the past eight years, the final success in a distinguished and highly decorated career in education in which she also served as a teacher, coach, yearbook adviser, and ninth grade team leader.
Haskell ran an excellent school during an era of difficult financial circumstances for the town. Her staff, including teachers, guidance counselors, and office personnel, were a reflection of her dedication and commitment to maximizing the educational experience for each of the students who attended the middle school.
Haskell can leave the middle school knowing that she had a tremendous and lasting influence on the students who needed that strong and caring touch to prepare them for their high school years.
We know we join with hundreds of Winthrop parents and students in thanking Zoe Haskell for making the Winthrop Middle School a vibrant and safe environment in which our students could flourish and excel on a daily basis. She did an outstanding job, and we wish her the best in the future.
