Forward Progress – Town manager’s position is drawing a lot of interest

With all of the town’s attention on the Proposition 2 1/2 override election, it might seem that not much is being done with the search for a new town manager.

But that’s not the case at all. Be assured that the Collins Center at UMass-Boston and the town’s five-member search committee composed of Peter Finn, Carole Lederman, Paul Leavy, Larry Powers, and Marie Turner are working hard, reviewing the applications and moving toward a recommendation to present to Town Council President Thomas Reilly.

Reportedly, there are approximately 40 candidates, some from outside Massachusetts, some from the Greater Boston area, and local people, who have applied for the position. We understand that there are some outstanding and talented individuals in the pool of candidates.

We wish to reiterate that Interim Town Manager Larry Holmes has done an excellent job during trying times over these past few months. We’re sure that Larry will step forward to help with the transition process as the new town manager takes office next month.
